Frequently Asked Questions.

Osteopathy can be new for many people. This page answers the most common questions about osteopathy treatment, Photobiobiomodulation/ Low level laser therapy, ACC cover, appointment times, and what to expect at Osteopathy Central Otago. If you need more clarification, you’re always welcome to contact me.

  • An osteopath uses hands‑on techniques to assess, diagnose, and treat musculoskeletal pain, tension, and dysfunction. Treatment may include joint mobilisation, soft tissue work, gentle stretching, articulation, strain-counterstrain, and techniques that support the body’s natural healing processes.

  • Common issues I treat include:

    • Back, neck & shoulder pain

    • Headaches and jaw tension

    • Sciatica & nerve irritation

    • Hip & pelvic discomfort

    • Sporting injuries

    • Postural strain from work or daily life

    • Pregnancy‑related pain

If you’re unsure whether osteopathy is right for you, I’m happy to advise.

  • All appointments — both ACC and private — last up to 30 minutes.
This ensures focused, efficient, and effective care without drawn‑out or unnecessary session lengths.

  • Yes. If your pain or injury resulted from an accident, I can apply an ACC claim for you during your appointment.
If you already have an approved ACC number, simply bring it to your session.

ACC reduces your treatment cost, making care more affordable while supporting recovery.

    • Private Treatment : $115/$99

    • ACC Treatment : $87/$75

The cost remains the same regardless of treatment technique.

  • Yes — I offer Southern Cross Easy‑Claim for eligible osteopathy treatments.

    This means:
    ✔ No receipts
    ✔ No reimbursement forms
✔ Instant approval for eligible plans

You only pay what Southern Cross does not cover.

  • Your first appointment includes:

    1. A detailed discussion about your symptoms and health history

    2. Physical assessment of posture, mobility, and muscle/joint function

    3. Hands‑on osteopathic treatment

    4. A tailored plan for recovery and long‑term benefit

Everything is explained clearly before we begin.

  • Wear comfortable clothing you can move in — activewear, shorts, or loose trousers are ideal.
You will never be asked to undress beyond what you’re comfortable with.

  • Treatment should not be painful. Some techniques feel firm or relieving, but I always work within your comfort level. You’re encouraged to give feedback at any time. Post-treatment-reaction can last up to 72 hours.

  • This varies depending on your condition, but most people see noticeable improvement within 1–3 sessions.
Chronic or long‑term issues may require a longer plan.

I always focus on efficient, targeted care — no unnecessary repeat bookings.
